Anne's Story

Anne McDonald Godlewski was an alumni of Alpha Xi Delta at Kent State University. She is remembered by her sisters as a caring, loving, and compassionate sister who was always there to lend a hand or an ear to those in need.

While at Kent State, she majored in education and met the love of her life, Tom, who she was married to for 33 years. They had 2 children, Meg and Tj, and settled in Lorain, Ohio where Anne taught for nearly 25 years.

Anne passed away suddenly on February 7, 2017 from a brain aneurysm. To honor her memory and legacy as a sister of Alpha Xi Delta, the Anne McDonald Godlewski Scholarship was created. The goal of this scholarship is to help active sisters of the Beta Tau Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta at Kent State afford their tuition costs and carry on Anne's caring spirit and passion for education.

I am junior in the nursing program who plans to go back to school for an advanced degree. I currently serve on the executive board of Alpha Xi Delta holding the Chapter Life Vice President position. I am so fortunate that this chapter has provided me with both leadership and academic opportunities. For these reasons I am set up for success in the future. Thank you so much!

Farah Soliman (2019)

My name is Farah Soliman and I am beyond thankful to be the recipient of The Anne McDonald Godlewski scholarship. I am originally from Cairo, Egypt, but my home is in Barberton, Ohio. As a sophomore here at Kent, I am in the nursing program and hoping to further my education after graduation to be a Family Nurse Practitioner. I am a part of National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Students for Professional Nursing at Kent. I joined the Beta Tau Chapter in the Fall of 2018, and I have loved every minute of it. I never knew what Beta Tau would bring into my life and how it would change me and my perspective on things and for that I am forever grateful.

"I’m a senior Public Relations major with a minor in Economics, and I plan on going to Law School upon graduation this May! I’m originally from Tallmadge, Ohio and attended Tallmadge High School. I joined Alpha Xi Delta as a freshman (Fall 2015) and it honestly was the best decision I have ever made. The Beta Tau Chapter has helped me realize my potential and gain confidence in myself to do whatever I set my mind to. This includes taking on positions in the chapter such as Fundraising Assistant Chair, Academic Achievement Chair, and now Membership Vice President. Earning this scholarship means I don’t have to work as many hours during this school year and can instead focus on my Education. It also allowed me to take an unpaid internship position this year to serve the community as a Community Relations Intern at Summit County Children Services.”

Nichole Scheid (2017)

I graduated from Kent State University in May of 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. At the end of my Junior year, I was panicking trying to budget for my last year of college. Tuition, costly licensure exams, and housing had me questioning whether I should delay my final semester. Running out of options, I applied for Alpha Xi Delta’s Foundation Scholarships and I was lucky enough to be awarded Anne’s scholarship. The money I received helped me pay for my last two semesters and allowed me to graduate on time. Without Anne's scholarship I would still be in school, but instead I'm pursuing my dreams as a substitute teacher for multiple districts near my hometown of Mentor, Ohio. I am forever grateful to have received such a gift. Please consider donating to help continue Anne’s legacy and support young women in achieving their dreams.
